OSM Romania CLC Import – Romania has good terrain coverage

Over the last days, the OpenStreetMap maps of Romania gained terrain details on the entire surface. I’ve watched surprised and knew it must be some automated merging of already collected data. At this point, Romania seems to have more complete terrain coverage than even some „more western” countries, like Hungary or Austria, which could be surprising, given that relatively few Romanians afford GPS gadgetry and there’s no culture of working on non-lucrative cooperative projects like OSM.

These changes are due to the „Corine Land Cover” import for Romania which happened during the first days of December. Congratulations to the guys that did this without high profile publicity.
